BIBLE COURSES

OLD TESTAMENT

OT130 The Pentateuch
A study of the writings of Moses forms a foundation for understanding the rest of Scripture. Emphasis will be given to the development of the nation of Israel from Abraham to the time of entrance into the promised land.
Three semester hours.

OT230 Historical Books
A study of the history of Israel from the entrance into Canaan through the captivity and restoration will be examined.
Three semester hours.

OT232 Prophets of Israel
An overview of selected major and minor prophets is given by means of the study of genre of literature, contemporary settings, and key prophecies.
Three semester hours.

OT330 Poetic Books
An overview of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, and Lamentations is pursued by means of a study of Hebrew poetry, devotional aspects, and representative topics of each book.
Three semester hours.

OT401 Book of Genesis
This course is a detailed exposition of the book of Genesis aimed at developing the student's ability to trace the flow of theological themes and develop outlines, lessons and sermons. It is preferred that the student have completed at least one semester of Hebrew Grammer.

OT406 Judges, Ruth and Samuel
This course is a detailed exposition of these books aimed at developing the student's ability to trace the flow of theological themes and develop outlines, lessons and sermons. It is preferred that the student have completed at least one semester of Hebrew grammer.

NEW TESTAMENT

NT141 Life of Christ
Emphasis is given to the ministry and message of Christ by harmonizing the gospel accounts and focusing on the chronological development of His ministry.
Three semester hours.

NT143 Acts
An examination of this important historical book emphasizes the Christological origin, nature, and missionary outreach of the New Testament churches. Consideration is also given to the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Three semester hours.

NT241 Corinthian Epistles
This is an expository study of the complex social, cultural, moral, and spiritual conditions prevailing in the Corinthian church which affected both its worship and its intra- and inter-church relationships. It will give special attention to the exegesis of particular passages and the application of doctrines to the modern church.

NT243 General Epistles
Covering the books of Hebrews, James, I and II Peter, and Jude, the emphasis will be upon understanding the message of the various epistles in the light of practical Christian living in the face of great difficulties.

NT245 Prison Epistles
This is an analytical study of the epistles of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon emphasizing the doctrinal and practical aspects of church life.

NT247 Thessalonian and Galatian Epistles
Among the earliest writings of Paul, these letters address both the hope of the believer and early attempts to destroy the Christian faith. Attention will be given to the problems addressed in these vital letters.

NT341 Pastoral Epistles
A study of I and II Timothy and Titus will develop the theme of order in the life and ministry of the local church under the direction of God-called pastors.

NT345 Johannine Writings
This course is designed to introduce the student to an analysis of selected portions of John's Gospel and his epistles, emphasizing Johannine theology as it interprets the life of Christ.
Three semester hours.

NT401 Gospel of John
This course is a detailed exposition of the Gospel of John aimed at developing the student's ability to trace the flow of theological themes and develop outlines, lessons and sermons. It is preferred that the student have completed at least one semester of Greek grammer.

NT406 Romans
This is an in-depth analysis of the Book of Romans looking at its doctrines and practical applications. It is preferred that the student have at least one semester of Greek grammer.

TH140 Foundations of Your Faith
The elements of Baptist theology are studied from a practical rather than theoretical approach. This course presents an overview of systematic theology as contained in the Scriptures. As a result the student gains a grasp of the major themes of the Bible and how they are integrated into each other.

The vital study of the church as to its origin, nature, and commission is gleaned from the pages of the New Testament and then related to the various areas of church life.

TH350 Eschatology
A study of the doctrinal positions in the Scriptures as related to Christ's return to earth prior to the establishment of His kingdom as a fulfillment of the Davidic covenant. It will examine those key prophetic passages found in both the Old and New Testaments.

TH405 Apologetics
This is a study whereby a student learns to defend the faith. The validity of Scripture is demonstrated not only as it relates to the Biblical text but also as it opposes heathen philosophies and religious ideas.

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY

TH251 Christology, Soteriology
A systematic study of the doctrines of Christ and salvation.

A systematic study of the doctrines of man, sin, and angels.

A systematic study of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit and last things.

A systematic study of the doctrines of the Bible, the Triune God, and the nature and work of God.

CHRISTIAN DEVELOPMENT

CD100 Orientation
Testing and proper methods of study for preparation of classroom assignments will be explored the first half of the semester, and the Christian ethics of the student will be studied the last half of the semester as related particularly to his spiritual life at IBC.

CD104 Principles of Evangelism
Emphasis is given to effective ways to share one's faith with others so that salvation results for the lost and strengthening results for those already saved. Great emphasis is laid upon memorizing key Scriptures and then sharing them with others.

CD106 Spiritual Life
Many phases of a Christian's life will be discussed in this course. A practical, Biblical approach to life's circumstances and responsibilities is given.

CD108 Bible Study Methods
Using the basic principles for understanding written communication, the student is taught how these principles should be applied to the Bible's various kinds of literature so that God's message may be accurately understood and applied.

CD112 Christianity and World Views
This course is an apologetics course aimed at showing the Christian world view is the only correct criteria for life and showing why other world views are inadequate both in explaining and meeting man's needs. Another aim of this course is to help the student cope with a society that more and more is embracing non-Christian ideologies.

CD114 The Christian and His World
This course covers contemporary issues that affect the believer and his walk. It works in sequel with the course Christianity and World Views. In that course the philosophies and apologetics are covered, while in this course principles of evaluation concerning current events is covered. Students are supplied with resource help so that they can remain current with changes in our society.
Prerequisite: CD112 Three semester hours.

MISSIONS

MI200 Missions and the Local Church
This course provides a study of responsibilities that Scripturally must be recognized, understood, and mutually implemented between the missionary and the church. Attention is given to special problems.
Three semester hours.

MI302 Cultural Anthropology
This is a study of the history and science of man with emphasis on culture, race, government and customs. The objective is to prepare the student to deal with other cultures.
Three semester hours.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COURSES

CE201 History of Christian Education
This is a survey and evaluation of the religious-educational principles and practices of the pre-Christian, ancient, medieval and modern periods of history. This course acquaints the student with vital facts in the history of education as an important part of the history civilization.

CE202 Philosophy of Christian Education
This is a survey of religious educational procedures and practices and the formulation of a personal philosophy of Christian education.
Three semester hours.

CE204 Development of Christian Women
Many phases of a Christian woman 's life are discussed in this course, including the single woman, the married woman, the mother and the widow. A practical, biblical approach to life's circumstances and responsibilities is given.
Three semester hours.

CE303 Sunday School Administration
This is a study of the principles and practices of efficient Sunday School organization and administration in accordance with the Scriptures. Labortatory experience will be incorporated with lectures. Attention will be given to recent developments.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: CE102.

CE305 Organization and Administration of Religious Education
This is a course in the principles and practices of organizing and administering Christian education in the local church. Emphasis will be placed on a church-wide or unified approach to Christian education, including organization, equipment, curriculum, worship, evangelism and teacher training.
Three semester hours.

CE402 Principles of Teaching
This course directs the student to the basic laws of teaching in a dynamic format designed to motivate and encourage each student to become a sharer of God's message whether or not teaching takes place in a formal situation.
Three semester hours.

CE405 Curriculum Development
This course is a survey and evaluation of Christian curriculum materials with heavy emphasis on sound and Biblical curriculum-making. The student conducts laboratory exercises in developing curricula in a local independent Baptist church.

MUSIC

MU101 Fundamentals of Music
A study of the rudiments and fundamentals of music including the staff, measure, time signatures, major keys, dynamic signs, tempo marks and articulation. Some ear training will be incorporated throughout the course.

MU103 Preparation for Song Leading
This course is designed to combine the fundamentals of music theory with basic conducting techniques. The goal is to prepare students to direct congregational or small group singing.

MU201p-206p Applied Piano
Instruction in piano consists of one half-hour lesson per week. Advanced students will be expected to participate with their respective instruments in IBC musical functions.
One semester hour.

MU201v-206v Applied Voice
Instruction in voice consists of one half-hour lesson per week. All voice students are expected to participate in musical functions of IBC.

PASTORAL THEOLOGY COURSES

PA302 Basic Sermon Development
This course guides the student in developing a sermon from a selected text of Scripture. All aspects of sermon development, from introduction to conclusion and invitation, will be covered through instructional guidance, written performance, and actual delivery.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: SP202.

PA304 Homiletics I
Building upon the material of PA302, this course allows the student to differentiate between topical, textual and expository sermons both in preparation and delivery. Emphasis will be given to the preparation and delivery of clear, meaningful, accurate sermons which are at the same time dynamic and expressive of dependence upon God.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: PA302.

PA402 Homiletics II
This course continues to develop the preaching skills of the student with more emphasis upon delivery. Emphasis will be given to expository preaching.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: PA304.

PA311 Church Administration and Management
This course seeks to help the student develop a Biblical philosophy of pastoral leadership so that Scriptural polity and procedures of church governance can be understood and implemented through the church's personnel and finances in all aspects of church life.
Three semester hours.

PA313 Pastoral Counseling/Evaluation
Guidance is given in understanding and using the concepts, principles, and procedures of pastoral counseling in the local church, while also evaluating the student's skills, capabilities, and weaknesses as a potential pastor.
Three semester hours.

PA402 Pastoral Theology
This course concerns the Biblical concept of the office of pastor, his call, his leadership and his ministry. The course involves a study of the pastor's ordination, his personal life, self-discipline, ethics, plus pastoral functions. In addition, some consideration will be given to areas of need or interest introduced by the instructor and/or the students.

GK313 Greek Grammar I
The essentials of basic Greek grammar are emphasized in order to acquaint the student with the rules which this language uses to indicate the relationship between words and arrangements of words in his Greek New Testament.

GK315 Greek Grammar II
This course continues the essential elements of basic Greek grammar in order to acquaint the student with the rules which this language uses to indicate the relationship between words and arrangements of words in his Greek New Testament.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: GK 313.

GK401 Greek Syntax
Emphasis is given enabling the student to be more precise in determining the meaning of the Greek grammar and the relationship of their forms in a sentence, so that a greater degree of clarity and understanding of the text is gained.
Three semester hours. Prerequisite: GK 313 & 315.

HB 312 Hebrew Grammar I

A remedial course in English Grammar, designed for students whose score on the English placement test indicates a deficiency in English.

A practical course, this semester's study is designed for concentrated study in grammar, vocabulary, and composition.

EN103 English Composition
This course is designed for the development of logical and adequate expression in writing and research techniques in order to learn proper preparation of papers in advanced studies.

PS102Introduction to Psychology
A general study of emotions, motives, thinking, learning and intelligence, and their role in the development and adjustment of the individual.

SP202 Principles of Speech
This is a basic study of the general rules of principles which serve as guidelines in developing speech skills. The student is directed through studies that improve his appreciation for speech making. The course is designed to aid the student in a clear presentation of ideas and the use of resource materials in an effective manner.

This is a survey course tracing the Baptists, via faith and practice, from the time of Christ until the modern era.

This course is designed to overview the geography and history of the Old and New Testament so that the student has a better understanding of the people, places and events of the Bible.
